Cuesta Partners is looking for a data engineer with an interest in consulting, to work with our broad base of clients on various engagements, delivering data environments quickly using modern technologies and best practices. 

As a member of our data practice, you will have the unique opportunity to shape and build various green field areas, making a lasting impact on our clients’ data landscape. Collaborating closely with leadership, you will play a key role in ingesting data for strategic business domains that can benefit from analytical insights. Your mission will be to deliver end-to-end data solutions, leveraging your expertise to unlock valuable insights and drive actionable decisions. As the driving force behind the acquisition and transformation of data sets, your contribution will be key to unlocking analytics insights from our client’s data.

You will ensure the data pipelines are scalable, secure, and cater to the needs of multiple business units. Your expertise in developing and optimizing data pipelines will be instrumental in driving our data-driven initiatives forward. This role ensures that development follows standards, specifications, controls, audits, and procedures to ensure data integrity, quality, accuracy, usefulness, and timeliness. While the role is remote, occasional though infrequent travel to the United States may be required for some critical sessions. 

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of relevant experience as a Data Engineering Professional (3-5 yrs for Junior)
  • Significant development and querying experience in SQL
  • Experience with ETL tools such as Keboola, FiveTran, Matillion, DBT, SSIS, Alteryx, etc
  • Experience with Snowflake, SQL Server, or other data warehouse technologies such as BigQuery, AWS Aurora/Redshift, Microsoft Synapse, or Oracle
  • Expertise in relational databases, database structures and design, systems design, data management, and data warehouse; advanced programming skills 
  • Proficiency in data processing and scripting languages such as Python or R 
  • Expertise in data modeling, including knowledge of various data structures and their advantages and disadvantages in certain use cases
  • Capability to think critically and solve problems 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities 
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or computer & information science is necessary
  • Expertise in Spark, Hadoop, NoSQL and other big data tools considered a plus

What You'll Do 

Technical Expertise

  • Develop data pipelines: develop code for data ingestion interfaces to meet specifications required by analytics teams, following best practices, company standards, and adhering to data models outlined by data architects – making design recommendations as appropriate
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, identifying new tools and practices that can help the company achieve its strategic goals
  • Establish close communication with team members to align best practices, exchange information effectively, and collaborate for continuous improvement
  • Quickly triage and diagnose system or performance issues and support the business during critical downtimes and releases
  • Act as the technical expert, proposing solutions to roadblocks, outlining dependencies/constraints, and escalating problems as appropriate

Development Leadership 

  • Establish consistent communication mechanisms with project delivery teams 
  • Support the business during critical downtimes and releases 
  • Follow all IT auditing and systems access control processes
  • Support interfaces as necessary through troubleshooting, bug-fix, and escalations 
  • Mentor junior developers to improve team performance and empower others
  • Establish relationships across the organization to build networks and leverage experts
